About Us

Catalysts Africa Ltd

Catalysts Africa Ltd, incorporated in Uganda in 2018, with its partner companies and research institutions develop custom software to process, analyse and visualize satellite data to provide Earth observation products and solutions for sustainable development. Catalysts provides virtual environments to process and analyse the vast Copernicus satellite data. Together with its partners Catalysts generates data cubes of Earth observation (EO) data time-series to streamline and simplify data access and thus enable exploitation by end-users.

EO data from satellites such as Sentinels 1,2, and 3, but also complementary missions (e.g., Landsat, Copernicus Global Land products, etc.) are provided, therefore leveraging the high spatial-temporal resolution of these data sets. Our solutions contain libraries to perform data analysis (e.g., with state-of-the-art machine learning techniques), as well as visualization of results. Some of the insights we acquire from this data includes the different ways natural resources like oceans, lakes, forests, grasslands change over time either due to climate change or human activity. Based on such analysis we can provide reliable consultancy and advisory services on mitigation factors to reduce environmental degradation.

For end-users we provide comprehensive outreach services such as consulting and implementation services concerning distribution of results through standardized webportals (e.g., Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant), as well as a dedicated customer service. Whether on-premises infrastructure provision, or deployment of web-based geo-services on Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud – Catalysts is a reliable and knowledgeable partner. We also have worked with clients in Uganda in providing data and network security by performing penetration tests and network architecture analysis.

A wide-range of Front-end and Back-end solutions are provided as tailored IT Solutions according to client needs that include artificial intelligence and machine learning, data security, automation, and IT systems integration. We have a collaboration arrangement with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) which provides us comprehensive expertise and knowledge in the areas of digital safety and security.

We have a collaboration arrangement with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) which provides us comprehensive expertise and knowledge in the areas of digital safety and security. This partnership has created synergies and strengthened Catalysts’ capabilities in areas designed to protect critical infrastructure by means of Network Monitoring and Anomaly Detection on large data sets for Cyber Security, Blockchain Technologies, Machine Learning, Statistical Modelling, Information Visualization and Scalable Data Engineering and Analytics. Catalysts together with Cloudflight (formerly: Catalysts GmbH) and partners have successfully implemented national and international research and development Earth Observation projects.

Catalysts is working Very High Resolution (VHR) remote sensing data to generate roadmaps, with the goal to assess the roadside reserve and check for buildings that are not in line with the local building guidelines. Furthermore, the developed approaches and systems can also be used to automatically detect vegetation covering roads. The covered area can be estimated and used for maintenance prioritization, as
well as the procedure can be applied for road damage detection and assessment.

A research and development project on Forest Inventory in Uganda is currently under implementation by Catalysts Africa Limited in partnership with Cloudflight GmbH and Joanneum Research. Catalysts Africa Limited has established a partnership arrangement to offer the requisite support to GeoVille in implementing the Global Monitoring for Environmental and Security (GEMS) & Africa.
